Quetta Travel Guide and Tourist Attractions:
Quetta, the capital of Balochistan (1692m) lies at the mouth of Bolan Pass. It has three large craggy mountains, Chiltan, Zarghun and Kohe Murdar, that seem to brood upon this pleasant town. Quetta can rightly be called the fruit basket of Pakistan. The Quetta-Pishin-Zhob valleys are literally covered with fruit orchards and are lovely to visit in spring which is the season of blossoms. Mastung, Nushki, Loralai, Gulistan and Quetta itself grows best varieties of apples, pomegranates, peaches, pears, cherries, almonds, walnuts, pistachios, chilghoza, musk-melon, water melons and grapes. This region is equally rich in natural resources as well.

After 1935 Quetta is little away from the historic attractions. The two museums though very small are both worth a visit. The bazaars meanwhile are colorful and lively and have a wide range of antique jewelry and traditional handicrafts on offer, both Balochi and Afghan. Before setting off a journey to Quetta it is advised to contact the local authorities or a tour operator who can tell you exactly about the law and order situation in the province, whereas there has been some trouble caused by ethnic riots.

Balochistan Archaeological Museum
It was established in 1960 with the name of McMahom museum which was later on renamed Balochistan Archaeological Museum. It was devastated in 1935 earthquake; many of the collections were also destroyed, while others were taken to Calcutta. The museum was re-established in 1972 and since then has been shifted to various locations and is currently set in a rented building on Fifal Road, to the east of the city centre.
Most interesting are the intricately modeled figurines, nicely decorated pottery pieces, ceramic tiles and terracotta seals found in the various sites around Balochistan, dating back as far as 3500 BC.

Command and Staff College Museum
Built in 1905, initially a residence for Collonel (later Field Marshal) Montgomery, later on 1979 converted and inaugurated by then president Zia. There are excellent collections of military regalia, as well as oil paintings, photos, albums and Montgomery’s original office furniture. The Command and Staff College still has a high reputation around the world and usually the college has international students on exchange visit basis. It is about 3 km from Staff College and it is better to ask permission for the visit and have you ID in hand, local tour operator or PTDC office may help in this regard.
